Negligence & Collisions
In South Carolina, cars and trucks are required by law to leave room for motorcyclists. They can’t infringe on a rider’s lane of travel just because there may be space to do so. And there are no special rules that protect the operator of a motor vehicle from liability if their negligence causes a collision with a bike.
As most riders know, it’s tougher for operators of cars and trucks to see motorcyclists as they approach, especially at night or in unfavorable weather conditions. But that does not provide any excuse if their inattention causes an accident.
